Due to different structure in cable terminations and joints, electric field concentration will be easily generated when the medium and high voltage cables in service. These kinds of electric field disturbances may give rise to partial discharge, degradation of insulation material, and equipment breakdown. The difficulty of implementing conventional stress control solutions is that they do not have good stability and at the same time provide good sealing if you are operating the cables outdoors for a prolonged period of time or working in a complex environment.

Cable heat shrink tubing is a new and innovative cable termination and joint solution specially designed for 15kV to 35kV medium and high voltage power systems. The major advantage is that it uses state-of-the-art ZnO zinc oxide stress control technology which allows for the electric field homogenization via ceramic semiconductor materials. In this way, it significantly mitigates the electric field concentration around cable insulation cut areas.
When it is combined with heat shrinkable insulation tubing and high-performance polymer materials, a reliable sealing structure is made. This structure is able to conform to the irregularities of the cable surface and create a stable connection with the insulation layer to give excellent insulation, moisture sealing, and assure the cable system will work properly for a long time.

1. Excellent Electric Field Stress Control Capability.
The heat shrink terminations are based on the use of a varistor ceramic stress control system made from ZnO-based ceramic. It works well to decrease the electric field at locations where the electric field is concentrated by the use of such varistor ceramic materials, which allows for varying of the electric field distribution. When a partial discharge is tested under a 2U₀ test voltage, the partial discharge is less than 5 pC which leads to a lower probability of partial discharge and thereby, it improves the reliability of medium and high voltage cable terminations and joints.
Moreover, the product can withstand both 95 kV and 200 kV of lightning impulse withstand voltage so that the safety margins can be assured even in extreme conditions of overvoltage.
2. High-Performance Insulation and Sealing Protection.
The heat shrinkable cable termination kit consists of an optimized polyolefin and rubber-plastic alloy copolymer material. Following radiation cross-linking treatment, this material is extremely insulated and weather-resistant. The AC withstand voltage test of this material for 5 minutes can be either 39kV for (8.7/15kV) and 117kV (26/35kV), confirming that it has a reliable insulation system and it also is resistant to moisture, pollution, and changes in the external environment.
